DHA Licensing Services -- Getting It Right for Dubai Healthcare

The Dubai Health Authority issues licenses to every healthcare professional working in Dubai’s hospitals, clinics, and medical centres. No DHA license means no legal right to practise — for any clinical role, in any Dubai healthcare facility.

The DHA licensing process is well structured, fully digital, and entirely manageable when it is handled correctly. When it is not handled correctly — when documents are submitted with name inconsistencies, when the wrong professional category is selected, when the Good Standing Certificate has expired, when the employer does not respond to Dataflow within the verification window — the entire application must restart.

Documentation errors, eligibility misunderstandings, and verification delays can extend timelines by months according to DHA’s own 2026 guidance. StaffBank manages the DHA licensing process for healthcare professionals and the Dubai hospital groups recruiting them. We get it right first time.
Nick Hays

StaffBank has supported DHA licensing for healthcare professionals joining Dubai hospitals and clinics.

Nick Hays, StaffBank’s founder, has worked in Gulf healthcare workforce planning for over two decades and understands the DHA process from both sides — as the recruitment partner managing the compliance pathway and as a former government healthcare adviser who has seen what happens when licensing is managed poorly.

The most common error we see at DHA Sheryan submission is a Good Standing Certificate that was valid when collected and expired before the DataFlow verification completed. We solve this by sequencing document collection correctly from day one.

What the DHA License Actually Covers

The Dubai Health Authority is the regulatory body governing all healthcare professionals and facilities within the Emirate of Dubai. A DHA license authorises a healthcare professional to work in DHA-regulated hospitals, clinics, medical centres, and healthcare facilities in Dubai specifically.

IMPORTANT: A DHA license is valid only within Dubai. Healthcare professionals wishing to work in Abu Dhabi require a DOH license. Those working in Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, or Umm Al Quwain require a MOHAP license. See staffbank.net/dha-vs-doh-vs-mohap-licensing-guide/ for the complete comparison.

DHA licenses are valid for one year and must be renewed annually. Renewal requires 20 CPD credits annually for nurses and 60 for physicians relevant to the professional’s specialty. The DHA operates all licensing applications through the Sheryan portal — Dubai’s unified digital licensing platform.

DHA License Requirements -- What You Actually Need

The DHA Licensing Process -- Complete Step by Step

01

DHA Self-Assessment on Sheryan

Before submitting any documents or paying any fees complete the DHA Self-Assessment tool on the Sheryan portal. This checks your qualifications and experience against DHA Professional Qualification Requirements and reduces unsuccessful applications by 30 to 40 percent according to 2026 DHA statistics.

02

Submit Documents for DataFlow Verification

Begin Dataflow Primary Source Verification. Submit degree certificates and transcripts, nursing or medical council registration, Good Standing Certificate, experience letters from all previous employers, passport copy, and signed Letter of Authorization. Select DHA Dubai as your authority -- selecting the wrong authority causes rejection and fee loss. Fee: approximately AED 1,235.

03

DataFlow Verifies Your Credentials

DataFlow contacts your university, registration body, and previous employers directly. This takes 14 to 25 working days for most applicants. Professionals from the UK, USA, Canada, and Australia typically experience faster timelines. Express processing is available at additional cost.

04

Complete DHA Prometric Examination

Following DataFlow completion you may be required to complete the DHA Prometric examination. The DHA nursing exam consists of 150 multiple-choice questions. A pass score of 60 percent or higher is required. The exam can be completed at a Prometric test centre in your home country before relocating. Fee: AED 370.

05

DHA Credentialing Review and Eligibility Letter

The DHA credentialing committee reviews your complete application within approximately 10 to 15 working days. Upon successful approval DHA issues an Eligibility Letter valid for one year confirming you meet all DHA professional requirements.

06

Employer Activates Your License

The Eligibility Letter is not a license to practise. Your employing facility must activate it through the Sheryan portal. Only after this activation can you legally begin clinical practice in Dubai.

Why Most DHA Licensing Attempts Are Delayed

The most common causes of DHA licensing delays in 2026 are all preventable with the right preparation. StaffBank has managed DHA licensing for healthcare professionals from multiple source countries and sees the same errors repeatedly.
Wrong professional category selected at Dataflow

Selecting General Practitioner when you should select Specialist, or selecting Registered Nurse when you should select Specialist Nurse. Role misselection requires resubmission and additional fees.

Name inconsistency across documents

Your passport name must exactly match your nursing council registration and your degree certificate.

Expired Good Standing Certificate

The most common cause of rejected applications. Always request this document LAST in your collection sequence.

Incomplete experience letters

Must include exact job title, employment dates, facility name and address, and confirmation of full-time or part-time status.

Employer non-response to Dataflow

Warn your previous employer in advance that they will receive a Dataflow verification request requiring a response.

Scheduling Prometric exam before DataFlow completes

You cannot book the DHA exam until your DataFlow PSV report has been issued and accepted by DHA.

DataFlow Report Transfer -- One Verification for Multiple GCC Countries

One of the most valuable but least-known features of the Dataflow system is the ability to transfer a completed PSV report between GCC authorities. If you have already verified your credentials for Qatar you do not need to pay for a fresh full verification to apply to Saudi Arabia or the UAE.

A DataFlow report transfer costs approximately 100 to 200 AED or QAR rather than the full verification fee and is processed within 15 to 20 working days. Starting your GCC licensing journey with one authority effectively unlocks the verification step for the entire region.
